The new international airport of Nouakchott Oumtounsy is the largest airport in Mauritania. Its international code (IATA code) is NKC. Its ICAO code is GQNO.
Entered service on June 23rd, 2016 on the occasion of the 27th summit of the Arab League to replace the old airport of Nouakchott, it profits from the last technological advances and its infrastructures present the guarantees of security and the most modern comfort.
This project, approved by the government in 2011, is the largest construction site since the independence of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The futuristic airport terminal covers 30,000m² and can welcome 2 million passengers a year (Mauritania has about 4.5 million inhabitants). The six telescopic bridges allow quick, safe and comfortable boardings. Two runways, one of 2400m and the other of 3400m, allow the landing and takeoff of larger aircraft like the Airbus A380.
